Do you suspect that a friend is in an abusive relationship?

  1. Ask her how she is, listen to her without judging.
  2. Make she feels like she is not alone, that she has a friend who she can count on.
  3. Believe her, even if what she tells you sounds like science-fiction.
  4. Don’t tell her what to do, ask her: how can I help you?
  5. Explain her very patiently why you think she is living in a toxic relationship.
  6. Empathise, put yourself in her shoes, get involved without deciding for her.
  7. Respect her pace, her time to decide, even she needs several attempts before leaving permanently the relationship.
  8. Share your story of resilience to use your example in positive. If you could overcome it, she can too.
  9. Accompany her to seek professional help and approach available resources
  10. Remind her how much she is worth; how brave she has been for breaking the silence.
