Biography - Ana Bella
She is a proud mother of two daughters, Yaiza and Aimara, and two sons, Tairo and Shelton, and grandmother of her granddaughter Ildia- wonderful people who have lovingly shared her journey as social entrepreneur and are now themselves acting as agents of social change.
She is the creator of the Fundación Ana Bella for the Aid of Abused Women, the Ana Bella School for the Women Empowerment (Escuela Ana Bella para el Empoderamiento de la Mujer), and the Ana Bella Network of Women Survivors. Through these initiatives, she has provided effective solutions, involving women survivors, media, and businesses to act as agents of social change against gender-based violence.
Through powerful stories of overcoming abuse shared in the media, the Fundación Ana Bella reaches 80% of invisible women who don’t report abuse. We support 44,000 women in Spain so that they break the silence and recover their lives, not as victims dependent on aids, but as empowered and happy women. Ana Bella’s testimony on Facebook “Lo nuestro es Amor o Muerte” (Ours is Love or Death) reached 92 million views in just 2 weeks.
The Ana Bella Network of Women Survivors has 30,000 members acting as agents of change in 82 countries, offering a global solution to violence against women, by channelling the empathy and the experience of the survivors to help other women. We provide an immediate, personalised response to each woman, complementing and also supplying public resources. We demonstrate that women survivors are not the problem, but part of the solution.
Since Ana Bella was named Emprendedora Social de Ashoka (Ashoka Social Entrepreneur) in 2010, we have become a global reference in co-creation processes which generate systemic changes, receiving awards such as from the Ministerio de Sanidad e Igualdad (Spanish Ministry of Health and Equality) (Madrid 2011), Premio del Observatorio Contra la Violencia de Género del Consejo General del Poder Judicial (Award from the Observatory Against Gender-based Violence of the Spanish General Council of the Judiciary) (Madrid 2012), Mejor Proyecto Europeo de Co-Creación con Impacto Social y Económico dentro de la Empresa (Best European Co-Creation Project with Social and Economic Impact within companies) (Switzerland 2014), European Social Innovation Vision Award (Berlin 2014), Best Global Project for Women’s Empowerment (Paris 2015), Gold Medal from the Spanish Red Cross (Seville 2017), Premio a la Innovación Social por la Fundación la Caixa (Social Innovation Award by the Caixa Foundation) (Barcelona 2018), Arborus Award for Promoting Equality in Business, New York, UN (Sept 2019), Medalla de Andalucía a los Valores Humanos (Andalusian Medal for Human Values) (Sevilla 2020), Amazing Woman Award, Fundación Orange (París 2020), Premio Meridiana del Instituto Andaluz de la Mujer (Meridiana Award from the Andalusian Institute for Women) (Córdoba, 2021).
